Arthritis today is a very common disease usually affecting the people of the old age group. Also, it has several detrimental effects on the body. In this article we have tried to explain in brief about Arthritis and about its symptoms. If you have been facing any of them then do you visit your doctor.
Arthritis can be explained as an inflammation which occurs on the joints on a person’s body. The joints in the body are several such as that of legs or hands. The pain can also occur in more than one joint The types of arthritis are more than 100 and hence it becomes quite difficult to test the type of Arthritis you have but the most common types of Arthritis which affects people are Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis.
Although, Arthritis is a disease which usually happens to the senior age group but nowadays even children, teens and younger adults are showing the symptoms of Arthritis. It may usually take a long time to develop itself, but sometimes it may also appear suddenly depending upon the lifestyle and eating habits. People who are overweight, and have obesity are even more prone to the disease. It is usually seen that women have arthritis more in general than men.
The next question which comes in our mind is ‘What causes Arthritis?’. Our body is not just made up of bones and muscles, but there is also another joining agent known as Cartilage which is a flexible connective tissue. The function of cartilage is to absorb the pressure and shock whenever you are moving or putting the stress on your body. Hence, cartilage acts as a shock absorber and reduces the amount of stress on your body. When these cartilages reduce in the body from the normal amount a person may develop Arthritis.
As already mentioned, Osteoarthritis which is one of the most common forms of arthritis occurs due to the normal wear and tear which usually happens due to the age of act and obesity. If you are having any infection or injury to that specific part of the joint, it can even accelerate the breakdown of cartilage increasing the condition of Arthritis. Osteoarthritis also passes down to the generation and can be a kind of genetic disorder and hence if anyone in your family has this disease then you might be at higher risk of having the same.
We have also discussed Rheumatoid Arthritis, which is another common type of arthritis. This is an autoimmune disorder and happens when the body’s immune system attacks the tissue of your body causing health problems. In this case of Rheumatoid Arthritis, the body’s immune system attacks the synovial which is a soft tissue producing a fluid. The importance of the synovial is that the fluid produced by it nourishes the cartilage and lubricates the joint. A decrease in the amount of synovial may lead to destruction of the joint and cartilage.
